Restaurant: A Night In India, High St, Toowong
Pre-Action drinks: The RE, High St, Toowong

Upon reflection on our recent trip to our favourite Indian restaurant in Brisbane, it became clear that A Night In India has got some competition out there. All right, it was inevitable that it would happen, given that we are in search of the best Indian food in Brisbane, that one day we might notice some flaws in our benchmark restaurant. Don't get me wrong, we had a great night with a few extra guests, even a special guest reviewer, and the food was excellent as usual. But when you expect the best, you will be disappointed. When we ordered, the waitress did not need to be told what "Action" was, and this augured well for the meal to come. The naan was hot and tasty, and certainly impressed Nick. The selection of curries we received were also delicious, the service was great and the company was, as always, fabulous. Unfortunately, there was no Action. There was hot and spicy and maybe even extra hot, but no-one needed a hanky or extra raita or a quick dash to the loo. Admittedly (and we hate to do that), we were a bit disappointed about the action level. We were almost disappointed that our mate Subra wasn't going to make an appearance, but luckily he turned up and wandered/was dragged over for a bit of a chat.

We have not relegated ANII to the ranks of "restaurants we will not visit" - the food and service were great, and it still makes for a great night out - definitely up there with the best. What has happened is that ANII has once again prompted us to continue with our search for The Best Indian Restaurant In Brisbane. (But maybe we could get Action next time?)

This is the place where actioncurry.com started, insipiring us to see if we could beat the excellent food, mouth-watering naan and chefs who were up for the Action challenge.
We keep going back to see if it is still as good as we remember, and it always is.

Rating:
Damn good.
Excellent naan.
Great service, usually from our mate Subra.
Pub proximity and quality excellent

A Spice Night in India
Stones Corner
Details
We were the only group in the restaurant for most of our meal, which could have been a bad sign, but really shouldn't have been. The food was freshly made and tasty, and the action level was up there with the best. The service could have been better, considering that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Take-away is always great, and has received a Special Mention.

Rating:
Pretty good. Fresh, delicious naan. Service ok in restaurant, excellent for take away. Pub proximity excellent, pub lacks atmosphere

Cafe Kuma
Coopers Plains
Details
The original home of Action curries, still proving to be pretty darn good. The restaurant is small and casual, and it is worth the trip for the curries, the friendly service and Kuma's personal style. For more detailed information on the Origins of Action, click here
[Note: An angry e-mail reviewer was not happy with the service on a Saturday night. When it's busy, things can get a bit hectic! Best to go on a quiet night if you want Kuma's personal touch.]

Rating:
Great. Excellent curries, Kuma's service is one of a kind.

Taj Mahal
New Farm
Details
This is a lovely, small restaurant with great service and tasty curries. Staff looked after us too well and were too cautious with the Action curries. Nice busy location in New Farm, and cosy atmosphere in the restaurant. Can be tricky to find a car park, though.

Rating:
Pretty good, but conservative with the action level. Alibi Room close by for a pre-dinner drink.

Milan Tandoori Indian Restaurant
Kew, Melbourne
We sampled this one on a public holiday, so the few downfalls may not be present on a regular night. Seems they have a good reputation for great food, and the service we experienced was excellent. Bit like a fish tank with all the blue (when we were there), but all in all a nice little place.

Rating:
Nice curries, fabulous naan, great service.

The Chronicles of Naan

The humble naan bread, precursor to many an excellent Indian meal, has taken on a life of its own here at ActionCurry.com. Claimed by some to be the best part of the meal, the mere thought of a piping hot spinach and cheese naan is enough to get the cravings started.
